We cordially invite scientists from Swiss academic research institutions to the 1st Swiss “Workshop on Machine Learning for Environmental and Geosciences” (MLEG2019), which will take place at EAWAG Dübendorf on 16 & 17 January 2019.
Our objective is capacity building and networking inside the Swiss community to foster cross-disciplinary research on machine learning applied to environmental sciences and geosciences. We believe machine learning, and its modern deep learning variants, offer a complementary way to traditional forward modelling by learning very complex tasks from heterogeneous, multi-modal data at global scale.
The first day, 16 January, will be a full-day tutorial on machine learning, beginning with basic, unsupervised clustering methods up to latest deep learning techniques. It is targeted at PhDs and more senior researchers who already have a basic understanding of multi-variate statistics. We will split the tutorial into one half-day of theory and another half-day of hands-on programming (with Python).
The second day, 17 January, will be a workshop that consists of several keynotes by international experts in the field, interspersed with short talks (10 minutes) by participants who want to present their projects. Each short talk will also have the opportunity to explain more details during poster sessions. We will allocate ample time for discussions during coffee breaks and poster sessions.
100 CHF for the tutorial ( SOLD OUT! waiting list available) and 100 CHF for the workshop including coffee breaks and lunch
Abstract submission: For short talks and posters, please submit an abstract as pdf until 12 October 2018 here.
